A gunfight between law enforcement and an armed group is under way in the Ujubazar area of Sajek, in Rangamati's Baghaichhari upazila, Prothom Alo reports. According to police, the exchange of fire began around 11:30am on Thursday.

Rangamati Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib confirmed the incident to Prothom Alo. He said the firing was still continuing as of about 12:30pm. The police superintendent said authorities would gather more information and provide further details later.

The reporting does not identify the armed group involved, and no casualty figures have been released. The number of people taking part in the exchange is also not known.

Sajek Valley is a hill tourism destination in Rangamati district, and the surrounding roads have seen disruption in recent days. Other outlets, including The Daily Star Bangla and bd-pratidin.com, reported calls for a blockade of the Sajek road beginning Thursday, and an instruction for tourists to leave Sajek Valley by 4pm. Prothom Alo also reported that roughly two thousand tourists were stranded on their way back after a blockade resumed, and The Daily Ittefaq reported the Sajek Valley tourist spot was declared closed again.

What to watch next: whether police release details on the armed group, casualties, or the security situation on the Sajek roads, and whether the tourist closure is extended.
